Harry Seidler's grand tour

Harry Seidler’s grand tour: travelling the world with an architect’s eyeis an exhibition of photographs taken by the architect. Grand tours are considered a rite of passage for architects, primarily to gather sources of inspiration for their own work.

Taken during Seidler’s many travels, these photographs capture ancient sites and monuments as well as contemporary architecture by world-renowned architects, many of whom collaborated with Seidler on his own work. The photographs focus chiefly on the fine craftsmanship and detail of each structure, and highlight the ingenuity of the architects who designed them.

Considered one of Australia’s foremost architects, Harry Seidler was born in 1923 in Vienna, Austria. He has been acclaimed throughout the world for his achievements in architecture, receiving recognition and numerous awards for his designs, his writings and his teachings. Seidler arrived in Australia in 1948 and commenced architectural practice in Sydney in 1949. His first commissioned house in Australia, Rose Seidler House (1950), built for his parents at Wahroonga, is managed by the HHT as a house museum.

These one-off framed original photos are available for purchase. All proceeds going to HHT conservation projects and UN Women.
