Shelter in the landscape - Greg Preece

Artist and HHT volunteer Greg Preece has always had an innate interest in architecture and the Australian landscape.

His latest exhibition Shelter in the landscape, opening on 27 May in the Members Lounge at The Mint, presents works that explore this theme. Greg describes his paintings as 'observations of the markings, patterns and built environment left behind upon the landscape by our human pursuits'.

Greg first became a volunteer at The Mint as a way to counteract the solitude of the artist's studio. He has found that being an HHT volunteer and talking to visitors about Sydney’s history, and especially The Mint, Macquarie Street and its environs, has enhanced his appreciation of Sydney’s built environment. 'If I hadn't been an artist, I should probably have been an architect,' Greg admits.

Greg generally paints in acrylic but also uses oils, pastels and mixed media. He has participated in numerous group and solo shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

All works are available for purchase.
