Sydney Living Museums offers tailored vacation care programs at a number of our properties – the Museum of Sydney, the Hyde Park Barracks Museum, Elizabeth Farm, Rouse Hill House & Farm and Vaucluse House.

Each program is created to suit the needs of vacation care groups, with fun activities that will enliven children’s imaginations as they step back in time to discover the fascinating history of Sydney.

Sand in the City

This summer, the beach comes to town!

Inspired by the popularity of our recent interactive LEGO exhibitions, Sand in the City combines all the fun and possibilities of scooping, sculpting and shaping sand with Sydney’s insatiable love of the seaside.

Available: Every day during the school holidays and until 23 July 2017.  Contact 83135640 to make a booking for groups more than 10, schools or vacation care groups.

Duration: No limit

Price: $8 per child. Carers to a ratio of 1:10 are free (additional adults at concession price)

No of children per group:  min 10, max 45

Parking: no parking available onsite - we recommend public transport.

Hyde Park Barracks Museum

Hyde Park Barracks Museum Fun Tour

Children will explore Sydney’s convict history during a fun tour of the Hyde Park Barracks Museum.

An estimated 50,000 convicts passed through the barracks between 1819 and 1848. See what life was like for them! You will be shown through this awesome old building, have the chance to lie in a convict-style hammock and hear stories from convict days.

Bring your lunch to enjoy in our courtyard following the tour.

Elizabeth Farm

Clues, loops and hula hoops

Children will play colonial games such as quoits and hula hoops in the garden, and then go on a scavenger hunt during this fun program at Elizabeth Farm.

Built in 1793, Elizabeth Farm was originally home to John and Elizabeth Macarthur, best known as pioneers of the Australian wool industry. Today, set within a re-created 1830s garden, Elizabeth Farm is an ‘access-all-areas’ museum. There are no barriers, locked doors, delicate furnishings or untouchable ornaments.

Bring a picnic rug and your lunch to enjoy in our beautiful gardens before or after the program.

Rouse Hill House & Farm

Explore Rouse Hill House & Farm! Come and find out what life used to be like on the farm. Feed our chickens and do some chores like hanging the clothes out to dry before wandering through our gardens and playing some games outside the schoolhouse.

Built in the early 1800s, Rouse Hill House & Farm boasts original buildings like stables, schoolhouse, summerhouse and family homestead. Children have the space to run, play and explore the property.

Bring your lunch to enjoy at our Visitor Centre.

Vaucluse House

Vaucluse House Discovery tour

Take a fun tour of historic Vaucluse House, and then play traditional games such as quoits, croquet and hula hoops in the paddock.

Established in 1827, Vaucluse House, with its magnificent gardens, is a magical place of discovery for children. Roam the beautiful Pleasure Garden and imagine fairies hiding among the flowers, say ‘hello’ to our farm animals and run free in the grassy paddock. See how people lived in the 19th century as you explore the rooms of the house.

Bring a picnic rug and your lunch and enjoy a picnic in the grassy paddock.
