Friends Around The Domain

 

For one day only on Sunday 2 February, cultural organisations located around The Domain will open their doors to the members of participating organisations, offering special viewings, talks, walks and other events over the course of the day.

This inaugural event named, Friends Around The Domain will see neighbouring organisations come together to celebrate the wonder and diversity of the cultural precinct that has developed around The Domain.

Hyde Park Barracks Museum 

Discover this UNESCO world-heritage listed museum - see our Convict Sydney exhibition, try on some leg irons and lie down in a convict hammock. Listen to our complimentary audio tour to uncover the history of the site or join a guided tour at 11.15am or 1.45pm.

The Mint

Access The Mint building and surrounding grounds to learn about the history of the building through interpretative displays. From Rum Hospital, to industrial site minting gold sovereigns, and now an architectural award winning property of Sydney Living Museums – we invite you to discover this fascinating part of Sydney’s history.

The Justice and Police Museum

Explore seedy underbelly of Sydney in the City Of Shadows exhibition, where you will meet the characters who passed through the cells of the Justice & Police Museum in police forensic photography dating from 1912 to 1948. Guided exhibition tour available at 11am.

Take a wander the 1890’s courtroom designed by James Barnet and the holding cells, see weapons, then uncover famous murders and delve into the lives of some of our notorious bushrangers.

The Museum of Sydney

Built on the site of Sydney’s first Government House, this museum interprets the history of this symbolic place and tells the story of Sydney’s past and present. From the story of the Gadigal people to the arrival of the First Fleet, the rise of the British colonly to contemporary Sydney – this is Sydney’s museum. Enjoy our temporary exhibitions Eat Your History: A Shared Table and Suburban Noir, then browse through our flagship gift shop, full of unique books and gifts.
