Chee Soon & Fitzgerald at SLM
Chee Soon & Fitzgerald’s relationship with SLM began in 2002 with a donation of two rolls of wallpaper to the Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection. The association has flourished over the years, with CSF going on to most generously give all sorts of items relating to Sydney’s interior design and decorating history – textiles, wallpapers, journals, trimmings and ephemera – supporting the CSL&RC’s interest in the history of houses, their interiors and gardens.
On 31 May, Bryan and Casey will be hosted by Curator Joanna Nicholas as they ‘intervene’ and ‘overlay’ their decorating aesthetic to the some of the interior spaces of Elizabeth Bay House. They plan to juxtapose old and new in a playful manner – using their refined and highly developed design sensibility. Come and experience Alexander Macleay’s colonial breakfast table setting overlayed with contemporary decorative arts or the modest housekeeper’s room transformed by refined 19th century Japanese textiles and objects.
In the demonstration and talk that will follow Bryan will touch on the conservation of original and important interiors, and also in some cases add some contemporary touches to these interiors reflecting the current occupants’ tastes and style.
Bryan and Casey are avid collectors who are passionate about the decorative arts, textiles and furniture ranging from the 19th century to the present – come and join us at what promises to be a wonderful afternoon.

We invite you to join us in a new musical experiment, bringing the music of the 19th century into the 21st century. We’ve delved into the hundreds of popular songs that survive in the collection at Rouse Hill Estate and we’ve also asked some brilliant musicians to help you explore these pieces of music from their homes and in our historic houses.
