Do you love interacting with people? Have you got a passion for modernist architecture and a desire to share your enthusiasm with the public?

Then this may be the volunteer role for you.

At Sydney Living Museums we're passionate about bringing our museums to life by providing memorable experiences for our visitors. We’re looking for Museum Volunteers to join our team at Rose Seidler House and play a role in leading guided tours of this unique property.

Rose Seidler House is one of the finest examples of mid 20th-century modern domestic architecture in Australia, and when completed in 1950 its radical concept overturned almost every convention of suburban home design. Today its furniture and fittings form one of the most complete and intact post World War II design collections in public ownership.

Museum Volunteers at Rose Seidler House lead formal and informal guided tours and engage visitors by sharing the rich stories of the property. Museum Volunteers are ambassadors for Sydney Living Museums, letting visitors know how they can get the most out of their visit. Volunteers will receive training materials and ongoing support to learn the property’s stories to be able to share these with the public.

This is great time to get involved at Rose Seidler House as we are launching A Modernist Season, our dedicated program of modernist-themed exhibitions, events, talks and tours, commencing in July. This will increase visitation at Rose Seidler House and will also provide volunteers with the opportunity to play a role at Mad About Modernism, our day-long program at Rose Seidler House on Sunday 27 Aug 2017.

  • To be a Museum Volunteer at Rose Seidler House you’ll need to have a passion for modernism and a friendly manner, great communication skills and enjoy interacting with people from a range of backgrounds and age groups. You’ll be committed to providing great customer service and you'll know how to be flexible and work in a team.
  • Rose Seidler House Museum Volunteers are needed on Sundays for 4 or more hours fortnightly or monthly (dependent on the number of volunteers recruited). This role requires a minimum commitment of 6-12 months.
  • Volunteers need to provide their own transport to shifts as public transport is limited (there is plenty of free parking on site).
  • Successful applicants will be invited for a short face-to-face interview.

All volunteers receive a free Sydney Living Museums membership which includes unlimited free entry to all our museums and properties plus a huge range of member-only benefits!
