Collection Management and Preventive Conservation

This is an excellent opportunity for 1-2 student interns to engage with SLM collections and gain valuable skills in managing and handling museum objects. The intern/s will work with the collection at the Museums Discovery Centre which includes archaeological material (primarily associated with the site of First Government House), furniture, large rolled textiles, uniforms and architectural remnants. The intern/s will contribute to aspects of collection management and preventive conservation activities, including rehousing objects, conservation cleaning and preparation for pest management treatments and documenting material for deaccessioning. The intern/s will also learn how to use the Vernon Collection Management system (database) as well as participate in day-to-day collection care activities.
