A select group of senior business leaders and their families will swap the comforts of home for a fascinating evening as a convict at Hyde Park Barracks to launch Sydney Living Museums’ Sponsor a Sleepover program.
Sponsor a Sleepover aims to support 500 disadvantaged primary school students and their teachers from rural and regional NSW to come to Hyde Park Barracks Museum in 2018 for a truly immersive convict sleepover experience.
This is a unique opportunity to step inside the life of a convict exactly where they lived 200 years ago - think role playing, costumes, eating food inspired by 19th century convict rations, learning games that convicts played to pass this time, along with a lantern lit tour of the Barracks and a night in the hammocks which the convicts called bed, all with the purpose of educating students about this significant part of their history.
Sponsor a Sleepover program is an extension of the hugely popular Convict Sleepover program which saw over 3000 children and teachers from 100 schools in regional and rural NSW experience a night as a convict at Hyde Park Barracks Museum.
For many children, the experience was the first time away from home and the first visit to Sydney. Over two years, more than 2000 children saw the Harbour Bridge for the first time. The average distance travelled to attend a convict sleepover is 300km with Brunswick Heads Public School students travelling the furthest at over 600kms to enjoy the experience.

“It brings the whole story to life for them creating a lasting impression and insight into a chapter of their history.”
