A wedding in the garden

Every visitor to Sydney Living Museums’ 12 heritage properties adds to the rich history of our sites – and sometimes our amazing places also become part of their history.

Each year, SLM hosts more than 600 private events across our unique heritage properties and grounds, including a recent wedding at the historical Elizabeth Farm.

The love story begins

Edmond and Tess met at university while they were both completing the same degree, but it wasn’t until they reunited through social media years later that sparks began to fly. They became inseparable, and a wedding proposal followed.

When the pair started looking for a venue, their shared interest in history-rich locations led them to the elegant colonial homestead and stunning gardens of Elizabeth Farm. After a setback with Tess’s original wedding dress – it shrank during dry-cleaning – she quickly found the perfect replacement. Tess says, ‘I knew I wanted something that felt fresh and fun for a beautiful garden wedding and something I could also dance the night away in at our reception, and it ticked all the boxes’.

The big day

The wedding day was coordinated by a few close friends, suppliers and Elizabeth Farm’s venue staff. Tess walked the historical carriage loop before making her way down the aisle onto the homestead’s sandstone front verandah, where the couple spoke their vows of love and commitment before family and friends.

Making the most of the magnificent grounds, guests enjoyed lawn games and Devonshire tea, while Tess and Edmond joined their photographer in the Oak Tree courtyard, which provided the perfect backdrop to capture the love and laughter of the day.

Becoming part of SLM’s history

Almost exactly a year later, in September 2017, Elizabeth Farm hosted SLM’s annual Spring Harvest Festival. Edmond and Tess attended the fun-filled day, and their pleasure in returning to the site of their wedding was only increased by the delight they took in being able to bring their new baby daughter, June, along with them.

Tess says, ‘Elizabeth Farm is a special place for us now and it was lovely to return as a family’. The house and gardens have been written into the pages of their own history, to be told in new ways for generations to come.
