Museum Volunteer opportunity: Vaucluse House

Do you love interacting with people? Have you got a passion for museums and a desire to help share our historic places with the public?

Then this may be the volunteer role for you.

At Sydney Living Museums we're passionate about bringing our museums to life. We’re looking for Museum Volunteers to join our team at Vaucluse House and play a role in providing memorable experiences for our visitors.

Vaucluse House is one of Sydney’s few 19th-century mansions still surrounded by its original gardens. When the towering colonial explorer, barrister and politician William Charles Wentworth bought the house in 1827, it was a single-storey cottage in a secluded valley. Over the next five decades, William and his wife Sarah developed Vaucluse into a large and picturesque estate. In 1915 Vaucluse House became Australia's first official house museum and continues to entice visitors to its lush and still secluded grounds.

Museum Volunteers at Vaucluse House engage visitors by sharing the rich stories of the property through formal, timed guided tours and informal conversations. Museum Volunteers are ambassadors for Sydney Living Museums, letting visitors know how they can get the most out of their visit.

Requirements:

  • To be a Museum Volunteer at Vaucluse House you’ll have a friendly manner, great communication skills and enjoy interacting with people from a range of backgrounds and age groups, including children.
