Director Heritage & Collections

Ian was not ‘to the manor born’ but sometimes wished that he had been.

His grandfather, head gardener on the Duke of Richmond’s Scottish hunting estate and his father, the estate draftsman in the Factor’s Office, perhaps provided the early childhood exposures that triggered the subsequent professional interest in old buildings  and historic gardens that eventually led to Ian taking on the role of Assistant Director Heritage and Portfolio with HHT - now Director Heritage & Collections SLM. After many years working on the conservation and sustainable management of historic gardens and parks in the UK, Europe and Australia – including long stints at the RBG Sydney and Centennial Parklands – Ian has now taken on the challenge of helping chart the future direction of HHT at a pivotal moment in its history.
