From the Collection

Our beautiful homes

Published around 1905, the series Our Beautiful Homes offers us a chance to look at some of early-20th-century Sydney’s finest houses and interiors.

William's bicorne

This hat was part of a court suit made for Australian politician William Charles Wentworth (1790-1872) while he was on an extended visit to England and Europe in 1854-1861.

Ikon studio

The Ikon Studio archive of candid street photography provides us with a fascinating glimpse into everyday life as it passed through Martin Place, Sydney, in 1950.

Try this handwritten recipe from the Rouse Hill Estate collection. Depending on how long you bake them, these biscuits can be hard and crunchy or a softer gingerbread style.
