City of Shadows: Revisited

Trustwords - Sydney Writers' Festival

The stories and images from the book City of shadows: Sydney police photographs 1912–1948 have inspired creations by designers, artists, poets, librettists and authors.

By far the greatest response, however, has been from researchers, and relatives of those pictured, who have come forward with new information to illuminate these beguiling images. Join arts writer and photographer Pedro de Almeida as he interviews Sydney Living Museums curator Nerida Campbell and City of shadows author Peter Doyle to find out what is now known about the subjects of the images, proving the old adage that ‘truth is stranger than fiction’.
