Join Holly Schulte, Curator Digital Assets, for a unique encounter with the original glass-plate negatives of the mugshots known as the ‘Specials’.

In conjunction with the Underworld: Mugshots from the Roaring Twenties exhibition, this talk will take you behind the camera and provide insights into the photographic materials, technologies and processes employed by Sydney’s police photographers in the 1920s.

See original glass-plate negatives and hear about Holly’s research exploring and re-creating the analogue portrait photographs. You’ll also learn about Sydney Living Museums’ digitisation and other work with the collection.

Please note that this tour includes stairs and non-level access.

Spaces are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

As Curator of Digital Assets, Holly combines her interests in photography, history and digital imaging technologies.

Holly has worked in collection, digitisation and curatorial roles in the cultural heritage sector since 2002. She completed tertiary photography studies at a time when the medium was transitioning to incorporate digital technologies, and this has provided a strong foundation for her research and focus on photography and digitisation in the museum context.
