Colonial Gastronomy: Regency Breakfast

Enjoy a rare opportunity to dine in the Macleay family's magnificant formal dining room at Elizabeth Bay House as we re-create a Regency-style breakfast, based on an 1812 menu.

Regency style dining was strictly coded for well-to-do families in early Sydney society, and breakfast was no different. Discover what was on the breakfast menu in 1812, and how such a meal would be orchestrated in the early colony.

This 'upstairs-downstairs' experience will see you don an apron to prepare food in the cellar kitchen or roll up your sleeves and help set the formal breakfast table according to the fashion of the day.

Then stay to sample the fruits of your labour enjoying the sumptuous feast in the formal dining room, and let the servants take care of washing up!

The tour also includes a sneak peek into the servants’ quarters not usually open to the public.
