Convict Barracks family fun tour

Explore the Hyde Park Barracks on our family tour and learn what life was like as a convict.

Work as the convicts did, play a convict game and discover what the archaeology of the site tells us about the past.

After the program, feel free to explore the museum at your leisure and discover more about Sydney’s Convict Story. Swing in a hammock and try on some leg irons, and follow a fun children’s trail through the museum.

Hyde Park Barracks is the most important convict site in Sydney, originally opened in 1819. It was the first convict barracks in the colony and an estimated 50,000 convicts passed through its gates between 1819 and 1848.
