Convict Sydney: Walking Tour

Sydney Living Museums has suspended all public programming until further notice.

This includes onsite learning programs, performances, talks, walking tours and all school holiday activities. We are taking these steps as a public health precaution in support of measures to contain COVID-19. However, you can still discover our places, stories and collections online and across our social channels. Stay connected to be inspired and entertained.

Join our knowledgeable and expert guides on a tour of convict Sydney – from the site of the first Government House, the pivotal point of cultural collision, to the Rum Hospital and the Hyde Park Barracks, the epicentre of the convict system.

Follow in the footsteps of the thousands of convicts who were marched from Sydney Cove up through the Governor’s Domain to the Hyde Park Barracks for processing.

Hear stories of convicts succeeding and failing, being punished and rewarded, as you immerse yourself in the landscape of early Sydney.

The tour includes special access to the sites we manage: the Museum of Sydney, The Mint (the Rum Hospital) and the Hyde Park Barracks compound.

Please note: Flat comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sun protection are recommended.
