- Event
Following a short tour through the exhibition Demolished Sydney, Hilary will read in verse about some historic Sydney landmarks while Matthew will do some live action cartooning! Then it’s your turn to get drawing as you create your own reinventions of these landmark structures, think Sydney Harbour Bridge as a coat hanger, Centrepoint Tower as a sprinkler or Sydney Opera House as a giant tent … the possibilities are endless! Then, you’ll draw your own fantastical futuristic buildings as we demolish Sydney and create a bizarre and beautiful new skyline.
Includes entry to the Sand in the City exhibition, which can be visited after the workshop.
Ages 7-12
About the book
Through a series of (unexpected) ‘firsts’, Hilary Bell and Matthew Martin trace the events, people and places that have shaped their city, however unintentionally. Where else will you find Sydney’s first traffic light sharing pages with its first tightrope walk across Middle Harbour? (And, just so you know, it was performed by the marvellous funambulist Henri L’Estrange in 1877.)
