Modern but not Minimalist

Modernist Exhibition talks series

We are all familiar with the white box modernist interiors of the 1950s and 1960s but what about designers that were not working in a minimalist style?

Why is it that we seem to remember only the minimalist Modernists?  Join us for an engaging panel discussion which explores a range of forgotten designers working in highly ornate and often baroque style and looks at why being ‘modern’ does not have to mean being ‘minimalist’.

Speakers include, former MAAS curator and Professor of Interiors Architecture program, Judith O’Callaghan (chair), Rebecca Hawcroft curator of The Moderns: European Designers in Sydney, design historian Catriona Quinn and special guest.
