Moon House tour
This Event Is
The Moon house is distinguished by the dramatic crystalline concrete forms framing the windows on all sides of the original single-storey sandstone house. Griffin’s business partner and fellow architect Eric Nicholls and his family rented the Moon house from 1937 and then bought it in 1943.
Tour experience:
The tours include the garden and neighbouring Lookout Reserve. The tour guides, Adrienne and John Kabos, will provide information about the objective of Castlecrag’s developers, Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, that the built environment be subordinate to the landscape.
Tour guides:
Adrienne and John Kabos are founding members of the Walter Burley Griffin Society; currently, Adrienne is a committee member and John the Treasurer of the Society. The couple have owned and been custodians of the Moon house since 1976.
