Sydney Living Museums’ houses provide an intriguing record of architecture and building in NSW.

In this new series of exclusive online member talks join our Sydney Living Museums’ curators as we examine the colonial bungalow Elizabeth Farm, the Greek Revival Elizabeth Bay House, the Georgian country mansion Rouse Hill House, and the modernist villa Rose Seidler House. Find out what inspired their design and makes them such significant examples of their time and style.

Open doors: Rouse Hill House with Dr Scott Hill

In this online talk, we visit Rouse Hill House, on Darug land in Sydney’s North-West. Built in the British Georgian style typical of architecture of the colony’s first decades, Rouse Hill was later added to with an encircling veranda and new service wings.

Open doors: Rose Seidler House with Joanna Nicholas

Rose Seidler House was designed and built from 1948-50 by Harry Seidler AC OBE (1923–2006) for his parents Max and Rose, and began the young architect’s distinguished career in Australia.
