Vanessa Berry's Sydney Lost and Found Bus Tour
This Event Is
Produced especially to accompany the Demolished Sydney exhibition.
Vanessa Berry's Mirror Sydney blog explores the suburbs of Sydney with a focus on overlooked, unusual and hidden places and stories. Mirror Sydney looks beneath the surface of the city, describing its atmospheres and mysteries.
Vanessa started the blog in 2012 to record the strange and resonant details of the city and the traces of the past that can be found within it.
The blog chronicles Sydney's ghost signs, milk bars, weird infrastructure, architectural anomalies and roadside landmarks. It documents the abandoned amusement parks, anachronistic businesses, subcultures and underground histories. As the city changes rapidly with major developments and infrastructure, many of the suburban landmarks that have been a part of people's everyday lives for decades face demolition and disappearance.
Although they are an important part of the urban environment the significance of these places often falls in between history and memory, and there is little public documentation of them. Mirror Sydney celebrates an eccentric Sydney and encourages readers to look closely at the city around them.
