Winter Solstice 2017

Whether by accident or design, Elizabeth Bay House was built in direct alignment with the sun’s rays on the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, creating a magnificent display as the sun rises over the horizon.

Over two mornings, wrap up warm and arrive before dawn to visit the elegant Elizabeth Bay House where you can admire this phenomenon, presented by Andrew Jacob, Curator of Astronomy at Sydney Observatory. Join us for a hot drink and a pastry in the dining room, and stay to enjoy a tour of the house where you can hear more stories from what was once considered the finest house in the colony.
