And so to bed

And So to Bed examined the history of beds, bed hangings and bedding. It surveyed the form and decoration of beds in Australia from the early 1800s to the 1950s. On display were beds, bed hangings, bed covers, bed linen, bolsters, mosquito nets, watch pockets and pyjama cases.

Visitors saw how fashion and fancy have influenced bedrooms overtime from the elaborate bed hangings of four-poster bedsteads of the 19th century to the timber veneered beds and chenille bed covers of the mid 20th century.

The exhibition was complemented by contemporary photographs documenting the bedrooms of 15 well and less known Australians today.
