FAQs: MWAP 2016
How do I enter my work?
Entries are to be submitted online. When you fill in the entry form, you can submit up to five photographs of your work. If you are entering a digital soundscape or video, you can upload low resolution files to the entry form. The selection panel will select works for the exhibition based on your photographs or files and artwork description.
Can I enter more than one work? Can more than one of my works be selected?
You can enter up to two works. The works will be judged separately, so it is possible that both works could be chosen for the exhibition.
I do not live near Meroogal. How can I find out more information about the house and its history?
The Meroogal page on Sydney Living Museum’s website is a great resource. Another good resource is the Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection at The Mint, in Macquarie Street, Sydney. The library holds several books and primary sources about Meroogal, including oral history transcripts, and the staff can help with your research questions. Some of the collection, including a pictures catalogue, is available online.
What will the selection panel be looking for?
The selection panel will be looking for works that demonstrate a direct creative response to Meroogal as a place, its history and stories, combined with artistic merit, and created in the last 12 months.
When will I be notified if my work has been selected for the exhibition?
Finalists, those entrants whose works are selected for display, will be notified by Tuesday 6 September 2016. All entrants will be formally notified of the selection of finalists either by email or letter after this date.
What do I need to do if my work is selected for the exhibition?
If you are selected as a finalist to exhibit your work, you are required to deliver the work to Meroogal on either Tuesday 13 or Saturday 17 September 2016. SLM will be in touch to arrange this with you.
Will the exhibition tour this year?
No, the 2016 exhibition will not be touring and will only be displayed at Meroogal. This means that your work can be quite specific to its surroundings and to the site of Meroogal.
Should I specify on my entry form where my work is intended to be located?
Yes. The selected works will be displayed in and around Meroogal, so if you have a location in mind, and a strategy for how it would work, make sure you include this in your entry form, in ‘Description of work’. The more information you are able to provide the better, as this will help the selection panel envisage whether your work is feasible on site. Site-specific artworks should be discussed with SLM staff at the outset of the entry process, and preferred placement cannot be guaranteed.
Will items in the house be moved to make room for art prize artworks?
Yes, during the exhibition period some usual Meroogal collection items will be taken off display and put in storage for their protection, and to make room for art prize artworks to be displayed in the house.
What kind of security is available for outdoor works?
Outdoor works are displayed at the artist’s risk. The property will have regular security patrols but we cannot guarantee the safety of works displayed outdoors. The outdoor and garden spaces are well suited to very robust works or ephemeral works.
What methods can I use to secure my outdoor work?
Anything that is not damaging to the property and is reversible at the end of the exhibition period would be acceptable. Please contact us with any queries in regard to display methods.
Closing date for entries is Friday 12 August 2016, 5pm.
