Tawfik Elgazzar was born in Cairo, Egypt but has been calling Sydney home for the past 18 years. After a career in business administration and information management, Tawfik decided that chasing light reflecting off the world around him was his true passion and he started his new career path in photography in 2004. Tawfik has been working in a variety of disciplines commercially with a strong bias to portraying people and documenting lifestyle. In 2012 Tawfik ran a community street studio in Newtown called Flash Hub and was awarded two grants by the local council to run the project during large cultural and community-based festivals. Tawfik has exhibited at Macquarie University in 2008 showcasing his Stranger in Strange Land body of work. Currently, Tawfik is working on starting a new community-focused photography project in the inner west aiming at supporting the local artists.
