Vacation Care groups

Sydney Living Museums offers tailored vacation care programs at a number of our properties – the Museum of Sydney, the Hyde Park Barracks Museum, Elizabeth Farm, Rouse Hill House & Farm and Vaucluse House.

Each program is created to suit the needs of vacation care groups, with fun activities that will enliven children’s imaginations as they step back in time to discover the fascinating history of Sydney.

Museum of Sydney

How Cities Work exhibition

Bring your vacation care group to experience our latest interactive children’s exhibition How Cities Work at Museum of Sydney. This hour long, supported learning experience enables children to freely explore and investigate the inner workings of a city based on the book How Cities Work by Lonely Planet Kids, illustrated by James Gulliver Hancock. A guide will help students into their hardhats and support carers during the visit as you navigate the fun activities this exhibition has to offer.

Available: Every day during school holidays, until 22 July 2019

Duration: 1 hour

Price: $11 per child. Carers to a ratio of 1:10 are free (additional adults at concession entry price $8)

Parking: No parking available onsite - we recommend public transport.

Hyde Park Barracks Museum

Hyde Park Barracks Museum Fun Tour

Children will explore Sydney’s convict history during a fun tour of the Hyde Park Barracks Museum.

An estimated 50,000 convicts passed through the barracks between 1819 and 1848. See what life was like for them! You will be shown through this awesome old building, have the chance to lie in a convict-style hammock and hear stories from convict days.

Bring your lunch to enjoy in our courtyard following the tour.

Elizabeth Farm

Convict Kids

Bring your little convict kids for some fun work to do on the Macarthur estate. Mr Macarthur is returning from England and there’s much to do before he arrives. The table needs setting, the clothes need washing, the bed needs to be made, and there are so many other jobs to do! Write with a quill to receive a ticket of leave before relaxing with some games in the garden. During your visit you’ll also have the opportunity to explore our gardens. We also have a secure space for morning tea, lunches and bag cloaking.

Day care groups: For ages 3-5 years. 60 min session (10am – 11am). Available Mon-Fri during school terms and school holidays.

Vacation care groups: For 6-12 years. 90 min session (10am – 11.30am). Available Mon-Fri during school holidays.

Price: $11 per child. Carers, at a ratio of 1:10, are free (additional adults at $8 concession price)

No of children per group: Min 10, max 60

Parking: On-street parking for cars. A bus bay is available for drop-off and pick-up.

Rouse Hill House & Farm

Rouse Hill House & Farm in LEGO® Bricks

Bring your group to this explore-and-build exhibition! Rouse Hill House & Farm in LEGO® Bricks is a detailed model of Rouse Hill House with a cut-away section to inside the house, the surrounding historic barn and other outbuildings and farmyard animals. The kids can help us solve the riddles of all of the characters in the model! As well as encouraging curious minds to examine the lavish and quirky interiors, the exhibition inspires kids and visitors to create their own house and farm with over 200,000 loose LEGO® bricks featured in hands-on construction areas.

Your time on-site includes a dedicated 60 min session (10am – 11am) in the exhibition, 30 min walking tour of the property to see the buildings re-created in the LEGO display in person (11am – 11.30am). We can provide a secure space for morning tea, lunches and bag cloaking.

Duration: 90 min dedicated session, 10am-11.30am. Includes access to exhibition and walking tour of the farm.

Price: $11 per child. Minimum fee is $110. Carers to a ratio of 1:10 are free (additional adults at exhibition entry price).

No of children per group:  Min 10, max 40. (Exclusive access to the exhibition and larger groups can be accommodated, so please ask).

Parking: Free onsite parking for cars and buses available.

Facilities: Toilets, covered lunch area, bag drop, wheelchair accessible, air-conditioned.

Vaucluse House

Vaucluse House Discovery tour

Take a fun tour of historic Vaucluse House, and then play traditional games such as quoits, croquet and hula hoops in the paddock.

Established in 1827, Vaucluse House, with its magnificent gardens, is a magical place of discovery for children. Roam the beautiful Pleasure Garden and imagine fairies hiding among the flowers, say ‘hello’ to our farm animals and run free in the grassy paddock. See how people lived in the 19th century as you explore the rooms of the house.

Bring a picnic rug and your lunch and enjoy a picnic in the grassy paddock.
