The lights

Each year the captivating glow of coloured lights overpower suburban architecture across Sydney, evoking the essence of Christmas magic.

This series of images celebrates the diversity and eccentricity of Sydney homes and their owners. From the fibro cottage to new housing estates, from a simple modest display to complete electric decadence, the lights transform Sydney’s suburban architecture into a glowing cascade of individual expression. Photographers Vincent Watson and Jennifer Leahy have roamed the Sydney basin, capturing the illuminated spectacles that embellish the Australian dream at Christmas time: from the outlandish and quirky to the sublime.
