Keeping your cool

 

When the temperature rises here at Susannah Place Museum, we use an old-fashioned but effective way to keep cool.  

Based on this 1910 photo (above) we reproduced a striped canvas curtain that is tied via some sash cord to the large shop window.

It works a treat, dropping the temperature by a few degrees, keeping staff, visitors and our old fashioned boiled lollies nice and cool.

Staff picking their way to Vaucluse House this morning between bouts of heavy rain were met with a novel sight.
