Food & Words 2019
Food & Words is a day of indulgence and a day to savour. The event brings the best of Australian writing to life, with a program of speakers who write about food – from cookbooks to fiction, in the beautiful historic precinct of The Mint.
This year, you’ll hear from writers tackling topics as divergent as Dr Patrice Newell’s examination of the current state of Australian agriculture in Who’s Minding the Farm? In this climate emergency and fiction writer Debra Adelaide on the role food and cooking plays in her work, from The Hotel Albatross to her latest collection of short stories, Zebra.
History writing always enjoys a place on the program and in 2019 we welcome Dr Alison Vincent who will talk about her research into Australian restaurant guides and the emergent dining scene of the 1970s. Evi-O, an artist and designer will speak about her work as a (food) book designer while restaurateur and chef Nino Zoccali will take us back to 8th Century Venice and tales of maritime and food adventures.
Food & Words is a lovely little writers’ festival that, in its eighth year, has come into its own. It’s hard to describe what makes it so special. On the surface, it’s a one-day event, held in a beautiful historic space (lots of sandstone and good vibes), with a speakers program that is, in turn, fascinating, inspiring and challenging. Underneath, it’s much more than that. Join us to discover what that is.
Tickets include lunch and wine, morning and afternoon tea, all-day refreshments and a gift.
