Terms & Conditions: Meroogal Women's Art Prize 2014

  1. Entrants
  • The entrant must be a woman of 18 years of age or over.
  • The entrant must be a resident of NSW.
  • The entrant’s signature must be included on the entry form.
  • The entrant’s artwork(s) must be within the overall size and weight limits detailed in Clause 5.
  • Employees of Sydney Living Museums (SLM) are ineligible to enter the MWAP.
  1. Entry fee
  • An entry fee is charged to cover administration costs:
    • $30 (including GST) for one entry
    • $55 (including GST) for two entries.
  • The entry fee is non-refundable.
  • Payment can be made by via the online entry form.
  1. The artwork
  • A maximum of two artworks per entrant may be submitted.
  • The artwork(s) must have been made in the previous 12 months.
  • The artwork(s) must have been made in response to Meroogal and its stories.
  • Each artwork must be clearly labelled with its title and the artist’s name and contact details.
  1. An artist’s statement of no more than 100 words must be submitted via the online entry form. It will be read by the judges during the selection process. Should the artwork be selected for the exhibition, the artist’s statement may also be used for promotional and marketing purposes.
  1. Size, and media guidelines
  • The prize is open to artworks in any style or medium, with the exception of materials that are dangerous, sharp, wet or perishable.
  • 2-dimensional artworks must not exceed 150cm in any direction (including frame).
  • 3-dimensional artworks must not exceed 100cm x 100cm x 100cm, or weigh more than 15kg.
  • New-media works must be playable on Quicktime, Vimeo or VLC media players on both PC and Mac computers. All new-media files must be supplied on CD/DVD.
  • All artworks must arrive ready for display:
    • 2-dimensional works must have secure hanging devices
    • 3-dimensional works must be able to stand alone or sit on a plinth.
  • Instructions for handling and packing must be supplied in writing and be attached to the artwork.
  • Submission of any site-specific artworks must be discussed with SLM staff at the outset.
  1. Judging panel and management of MWAP
  • The judging panel, consisting of one employee of SLM, one representative of Meroogal and one regional representative, will decide the winners. The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
  • The exhibition will be managed under the direction of SLM staff.
  • SLM staff have the right to refuse to display any entry that, because of its construction (eg bulk, weight, or delicate or dangerous nature), cannot be exhibited safely.
  1. Selection process
  • All entries for the MWAP will be assessed on the basis of the application submitted and the accompanying images. Selection will be based on:
    • degree of artistic merit and development of concepts
    • level of recognition of, and direct response to, Meroogal and its stories.
  • Entrants whose works are successful will be notified by 22 August 2014, and all entrants will be notified of the selection of the finalists either by email or letter.
  1. Delivery and collection of artworks
  • Artists accept full responsibility for arranging transportation for the delivery and collection of their artworks, and agree to bear all costs involved.
  • Successful entrants must deliver their artworks to Meroogal, in Nowra, on either Saturday 13 or Tuesday 16 September 2014.
  • Late entries will not be accepted.
  • Transit insurance is the full responsibility of the entrant. SLM staff will not be responsible for, or liable for, any loss or damage to artworks during transit.
  • No artworks will be released before the exhibition closes.
  • After the close of the exhibition, artists must pick up their exhibited artworks on either 29 or 31 January 2015. Artworks not collected by 28 February 2015 will be disposed of at the discretion of SLM. SLM will incur no liability in respect of the disposal of any artworks.
  1. Reproduction, media and publicity
  • Successful entrants must agree to allow their artwork to be reproduced at any time and in any media (print and/or online) for all non-commercial purposes in association with the MWAP and exhibition.
  • Entrants agree to waive any copyright claims in these instances.
  • All reproductions will be accompanied by a copyright credit line.
  • Successful entrants must agree to make themselves available for the purposes of promotion and publicity at times and dates and in places reasonably requested by SLM.
  1. Sale of artworks

If a visitor inquires about purchasing an artwork on display in the exhibition, SLM, with the consent of the artist, will provide the visitor with the artist’s contact details. SLM will not promote the sale of artworks. 

  1. Bundanon Trust artist-in-residency scholarship prize

A Bundanon Trust artist-in-residency scholarship will be offered to the entrant who wins first prize. The two-week residency must be taken between 5 and 19 January 2015.
